I was reading about the gear ratios in the other posts. I was thinking the rx-7 motor's redline is 8500rpm. If you paired that up with the 4:10 4 speed= fast

First off the rotaries have special exhaust requirements. They are very noisey and produce tremendous amounts of heat. You think that our engine compartments are hot now. Try putting a rotary in there. Besides they have very little torque.

I was just thinking about this swap today again, Hes right that they are a Hot engine, but they are also very compact and it would be interesting to see a swap. Dont think it would be easy to mount it to the 4.1 tranny though, probley very different bell housing patterns!

I asked a couple of RX-7 friends about this. They didn't seem to think it would work in a Fiero. Something about how the engine is laid out that the halfshafts wouldn't work.

BTW there is a kit to swap a rotary into a Subaru. A friend of mine had one that he Auto-X. I had a chance to buy it and didn't. Boy was I stupid.

If you can wait a year or two, the new Renesis Rotary motor is coming out. It's in the upcoming RX-8 and makes the same power as the late model RX-7's motor, but WITHOUT twin turbos. Plus the exhaust is a hell of a lot better. I assume it would work with a 626's tranny, if you can get that to work in a Fiero. Should be similar belhousings at least.

I considered putting a 13b in mine, but then I regained sanity. If you want a REAL rotary, there's always electric motor's (3 electric Fiero's exist). But get ready to add 600 lbs with all of the batteries. The motor fits oh so nicely though.

Yep, the exhaust dumps out right into one of the half shafts.

wasnt it the rx-7's that used a 4.56 gearing anyway, to keep it so it was able to pull off the line, they are more of a HP motor than a torque motor. so they put a low geared tranny on it so it could take off. then slowly changed the gearing through the gears to bring the rpms down alittle at higher speeds. my friends 88 rx7 redlines at like 6500rpm and in first he can pull like hell, but about 20mph is max in 1st gear at 6500 rpm.
