I was thinking of putting some 245/50/R16 tires on 16x6 rims and putting them on the fiero. Will these fit the rims and also will have enough clearance in the fiero wheel wells. Offset is 40mm

Yep I had the exact same size on one of my GT's. It will fit fine. Good luck!

225mm max. The wheels are intended for 215mm.

ya, 245 is a bit wide for 6" rims. 86-87 GT's came with 7" wide rims all around, so 245's worked alright. With 6" wide rims I'd go no bigger than 225's.

No shop around here will touch the rim if you want to put anything over a 225 on a 6" wide rim. im putting 14" 5 stars 14x6 on my 87GT with 225/60r14's rear and 195/60r14's front and thats the max they will work with on the rear.

I have 215/55-16's on my 16x6 front wheels. I absolutely would not go wider.

If you like handling, you probably don't want to go wider anyway.

A friend has 245/50-16's on the stock 16x6.5 wheels on his Grand Prix GTP. We tested his car to see if it would take the totally worn out 255/50-16's on my 16x8 wheels. He said that the feedback and response from them was much better than it was from his wheels and tires. unsupported sidewall makes handling very sloppy.

ya they are right i sure wouldnt put anything wider then a 215 your probably have clearance problems.... in the rear unless u got coil overs....
butif u wanna run a 245width tire..i would go with atleast a 7.5" wheel... im gonna do 245series on a 18x8" rim

in general... Always check the tire maker's spec's. These will tell you what rim any given tire is rated to fit. Two tires of the same size may not fit the same rim.

Keep in mind.... Tire width IS NOT the tread width. Tire width is measured thru the sidewall (cross section) when mounted on a specific test rim. Tread width can vary by as much as 1 inch across tires of the same cross section. If you want more tread, you may not actually have to change tire size but just brand/style.
