Well I asked this question a few days ago and would like to know how to fix it so it works. We rolled it back from 130,000 miles to 9700 miles which is the mileage on my motor and all. My title has exempt from mileage so its not illegal here in Kansas. I was just going to see how to get the odometer to work again and what to check for. Any ideas? Let me know as I really don't want to take the whole dash apart for this little thing after we just got my indiglos in

If the speedo works and the odometer doesn't, you'll HAVE to remove the cluster again and take the lens back off and remove the speedometer to see what the problem is.

A small electric motor drives the odometer by use of 2 gears one on the motor and one on the odometer. Does the trip odometer work? They are interlinked.

If you can give me some more specifics like......does the speedo work? does the trip odo work?; then I can look at the schematic and tell you if it's electrical or mechanical......or the most probable. Good luck!

Alright Phil, the speedo works, the rpm gauge works, although the gas gauge and temp gauge has never worked. The trip odometer works yes. The only thing that is not functioning is the odometer. We did roll it back if I hadn't said that before to 9700 miles from 130,000 miles. We assembled the new indiglo gauges and I have been driving around, I now notice that the odometer is not working. Hope that helps you out and maybe helps me render my problem. Thanks!

I just repaired the odo in my wifes car. I found the gears that join the counter with the stepper motor weren't fully meshed. Check for that. Also the stepper motor that runs the trip counter is the same type as the one that controls the milage indicater. They are plugged into the circuit board side by side. A quick change of the plugs and a test drive will tell if the motor is bad. If you have a spare instrument cluster, swap out the board and that should get you counting again.

Yeah but the odometer worked before we did the indiglos. So you think somethings not meshed together? Thanks.

when i changed to 120 mph speedo and the new tach on my 85 Gt (and white faced the gauges) my odometer didnt work... which was weird becuase it would work if i didnt have the gauges fully assembled... (removed the glass and tryed again.) I finally found out that for somereason when i put everything together (using my 85 non back lit cluster) the black plate was pressing against the odemeter preventing it from moving. I added two washers in the holes near the odometer and made sure this time it wasnt touching the odometer and then it worked great! hope this helps!

Yeah I took that plastic piece off, in the process broke it! Can you assemble the plastic piece while the speedometer cluster is all fully installed? See ya, I wish mine would have fixed but didn't when I did that. See ya.

Ok..if the speedo and trip odometer work then you're gonna have to take it back apart, disassemble the inst. panel and see if something is binding the odometer or the gears aren't meshing or something is unplugged. You can plug the inst panel back up and jack up the rear of the car and be safe while you test it. I'm thinking it may be obvious once you get it apart. Good luck!

Ive tried. It isnt possible to take the plastic off while the interment panel is still in the car... But on my car the BLACK piece was binding it....not the plastic , but someof the screws that go though the plastic and black face plate where putting the presure that was causeing the problem. Again.... As GTdude said... your going to have to take it apart. I took mine apart 5 times before i got it to work right... I got so good at it tyhat i could go to the garge grab the 5 tools i knew i needed and asssemble and disassemble in less then 10 mintues. THIS is NOT something im proud off. ;-) good luck
