My son and I are rebuilding an '85 with a broken crank. When we took it apart there was no camshft retainer i.e., nothing to hold the cam in place which from a previous question to this forum appears to be OK. However, there is also no thrust bearing. That is, the cam will be pulled into the block by the distributor/oil pump gear but then it puts the cam chain sprocket in contact with the block. Shouldn't there be a thrust bearing between the cam sprocket and the block?

Thanks for any help.
