What color should I choose?

I'm thinking Insignia Yellow would be best.

Or the lighter blue angel yellow?

i'd say the blue angel yellow... but should you use paint like that? i mean, aren't the needles semi-transparent right now?

Hey! What's with the rainbow??? Just kidding.

I would go with the insignia. I don't think they are transparent... but they do floress (sp?) a bit. So the brighter the better.

I'm only going to paint the backside of the needles. The factory paint is faded and they have turned a sick white yellow.

I'd like to see how you get them off. Please post pics of the process if you can.

Also, the original factory color wasn't yellow at all, it was actually orange - even on the backlit 120mph clusters. If you remove the black caps you'll see it, or on very low-mileage cars that have never lived outside a garage.

Hmm, sad to say it didn't work as well as I planned. I tried it on the aux gauge needles. They pulled off fairly easy with a plastic fork wedged between them.

The OEM paint was some kind of sticker or paint material that refused to come off. I tried both WD-40 (from a previous forum suggestion) as well as "Goo-Gone". One of these two products severely clouded the plastic. Once I got the paint removed and scraped off with a razor, I painted them with the above paint and it went on fairly smooth. The two black "caps" on the needles come off too but a stem that the needle snaps onto with these black caps busted off so out came the superglue. All in all I was disappointed because once I got them installed, the paint was too dark and didn't have the same flourescent glow that I was looking for. Just wasn't worth effort.

It sure is wierd to think the gauges should be orange considering all the ones I have seen appear to be a bright yellow. Ohh well, maybe I'll send em in to a professional company and get them redone.

Thanks,
Sean

FWIW, the indicator on our auto trans console was faded almost to a non-existent color. I took it out and used an Orange Sharpie marker and just colored in the back side. I've never seen a new one, but it looks good to me.
