I recently purchased a very plain '87 Fiero notchback. When checking the vin. against a list of models it is shown as a "Sport Coupe", code "M". Can anyone tell me the exact differences that make this car a "Sport Coupe" It is a very plain car. 4 cylinder, auto, no power anything. Thanks, Kirk
I had a truck that was as plain as it could be. The truck carried "Custom Delux" all over it. The Fiero is listed by GM as "Sport Coupe" because it sells more cars thaty way than if they called it "Plain Jane"

Check the rest of the option codes... I beleive the SCs all have stiffer springs. Otherwise they aren't much different. all depends what the original owner ordered.

There must be more than just a name or springs to the difference. The major option list that I am using for reference says that a "Fiero Coupe" base list price was, $8,299. The "Sport Coupe" base list price was, $9,989. That is a lot of money for just springs. Every thing else on the "Major Fiero Specifications" list is the same between the two models. Anyone else have any ideas? Kirk

I believe the differences changed every year a little bit, but mainly I think the Sport Coupe came standard with aluminum rims in 87, a better radio, a sportier suspension tuning (the aformetioned springs) and possibly steering wheel change (although by 87 I think all coupes had the 4 spoke). Don't quote me on any of it as I could be wrong (If I was home I could tell you for certain, but here at work I don't have any reference material!) Its nothing too major at any rate.

I have an '87 Coupe. It came with steel wheels and plastic covers, just an am/fm radio, no sunroof, no deck spoiler, and no power anything. Hope that helps a little.

The Sport Coupe designation really made a bigger difference in the early 4-speed Fieros. There was an "Econo Coupe" and a "Sport Coupe". The Sport Coupe came with the 4:10 4-spd. for performance while the Econo had a 4-spd geared toward fuel economy.
