When your putting a v8 (350) into the fiero 4 speed manual tranny, you need a custom flywheel. Is there anyway you can make the flywheel from the IronDuke fit onto the 350 or make the 350 flywheel fit onto the fiero tranny. Are there any other options? I want to do a v8 conversion but the bellhousing adaptor plate and custom flywheel seem pretty expensive. Any comments will be helpfull, thanks.

A SBC swap in a Fiero is not very cheap which ever way you look at it.

V8 Archie sells his base kit for 1500 dollars. I think that includes the adaptors, and the flywheel.

If your not ready to spend 6k plus on the swap, maybe you should look into the 4.9L caddy motor swap.

Do a search for 4.9L in the tech section, there should be lots of info in here.

Do you think the 4.9 Caddy is more expensive than the small block? I have an engine lined up already and I have a shop where I can do all the work and labor for free with all the necessary tools etc. I believe I can fabricate the engine mounts and since the engine is carborated, there won't be any major wiring problems. The biggest expenses that I see is the adapter plate, the flywheel and a new performance clutch. Does the Caddy engine bolt right onto the fiero tranny?? Thanks for the reply.

I'm using a standard 153 tooth flywheel that I drilled and tapped to accept the smaller diameter clutch. So far I have $15 invested.

There is a guy where I live that made his own conversion kit. Cost him peanuts compared to buying a kit. Car has been running great for years now, and he's happy. He told me that he used a stock V6 flywheel and had a part of it that would interfere machined off. If you are interested in going this route I can try to get more details from him.

I would love to know more about this project. What did he do about bolting the tranny onto the engine. Did he make his own adapter plate. Do you know what his total costs were. Thanks.

As soon as I can get the info I will post it - keep looking. I have only talked to him once personally, but a friend knows him well and can get in touch for me.

He did make his own adapter plate. More details to come...

Sorry, I always forget to check for PM's. I put my "request for info" in with my friend, so as soon as he gets in touch I should have something for ya.
