I'm beginning to suspect my cars engine may have had some work done to it before I bought it. Is there anyway to tell a 3.4 block from a 2.8 by looking at it.

Check the casting number on the side of the block. As an example, our 2.8's should all have a big "820" on the side.

The side of a 3.4 block has webbing cast into it, a 2.8 block has smooth sides. A 3.4 block also has a giant F cast on both sides, a 2.8 block has a letter T.
