If it's made for an 85-87, then you can put it on an 88 if you use the 85-87 Y pipe, and get rid of the 88 unit.

Fit is a relative term. I just installed a Borla on an 88. I think Borla needs to work on the pipe from the cat to the muffler, apparently there is a slight differenve on 88 cradles as pertains to exhaust. I cussed a bunch getting it in there, it tends to want to hang lower on the 88 for some reason. Maybe it's just mine. I had to weld the spring mounts from the factory muffler to the Borla muffler to make it stay in position without touching or rubbing anything. The tail pipe hangers were not doing the job by themselves.

(For what it's worth)

It will fit. You may need to make a small modification around the engine mount plate. It's nothing that a little heat and a pry bar can handle. Just 'tweek' it a little bit.
