I went to st. paul for a fiero show. On my way back i developed a knock in the engine. Many people had listened to it and told me different things. My dad is a macanic and told me that since it had a double knock it could be one of 2 things. It could be a wrist pin or the rod barings.

Here are some specs. There is liquid steel on the oil pan showing that there has been a whole punched into the oil pan and patched which leads my dad to believe that the motor had been on low oil and that could have done it. It does not knock when it idols just when it is reved about 2 thousand and up rpm.

If anyone can tell me what this is I would appreciate it. Thanx!

Just for the benefit of people on the forum...

Fiero_2_Dope is a friend of mine from the same town..

His vehicle is a 1986 GT 2.8 V6 4 speed...

Him and I were in the Twin Cities this last weekend for the Mall of America get together...

Any suggestions as to his engine would be very helpful. If you live in minnesota and have a 2.8/3.1/3.4 V6 block and heads sitting around in running condition due to an engine swap, and are willing to sell for a decent price, please let us know.

Guys, when I was looking for a GT, I checked one out in Ohio. Took it out for a drive, everything sounded fine, so I turned around to go back and fill out the paperwork. Accelerated in first, pushed in the clutch to shift to second, and I could hear a slight knocking sound. Every shift, you'd hear it. We got it back to the garage, and opened the decklid. While idling, it sounded fine...but when you ran it up to about 3000RPM, it would knock like crazy. I ended up buying a different car, but kept in touch with the owner of the other one. He eventually replaced the engine on it and sold it, and then started to pull the old engine apart. He found that the timing chain was so worn, it was hitting the sides of the cover. Doubt this is what your problem is, but it might be worth checking out.

The car has 153,000 miles on it, and short of tearing it apart and checking, we can't pinpoint the noise...

Oh well.. Will look for a cheap donor engine.

Thanx for the information man. I really appreciate the suggestion, we'll will check it out. I had heard some suggest that but never really thought that that could be the cause of the sound, thought it does sound like a rod. Was the sound like that? More like a double knock from a loose rod. It is wierd. Any one else out there have a problem like this?
