Last week we had a post of which spark plug was best and this generated quite a bit of opinion on the subject. As far as brands go, I have had pretty good luck with AC Delco and Bosch but the real reason for this post is to ask a simple question.
The 2.8L engine and the 3.4L P/R engine use different spark plug numbers which provide different heat ranges. The question is which plugs do you prefer in your 3.4L, the original R42TS used on the 2.8L or the 3.4L plug (don't remember the number). Prudence says that the 3.4L should use the plugs made for that engine but has anyone done a comparison of these two heat range plugs used in the 3.4L and have any comparative performance results to share.

I asked the guy who did my engine swap and he said to use the same part # as you would for a 2.8 and to only go colder if forced induction was used. I've followed that advice and found my 3.4 performs at what I would consider peak performance. I thought I'd try the plugs debated over last week (denso iridium) and have been impressed. Took out 8,000 mile autolites. I feel a bit more pull too. Went with the ITF16 which is the part# for 2.8's The ITF20 is the colder plug. Just more fodder I'm sure for some. So 2.8 plugs in 3.4 motor good. I realize the camaro 3.4 calls for a colder plug I just have not experimented between the two. I Would'nt want to get stuck in traffic and have the colder plug foul. I'm definetly not the expert but I feel I'm getting complete burn and never an overheating or detonation problem. I love this car. Figuring things out is half the fun 'cause when you do it right it rewards you in spades! hope this helps

What about NGK Plugs? Any word of advice with those? Or should I try the expensive 6 bucks a piece AC Delco. I know you pay for performance parts but what is your opinions of the NGK Plugs. Thanks.

I can't get a hold of Travis. I ordered his tuner a couple of weeks ago and he won't answer his phone or respond to my emails. artherd you know where he is at. I would love to get my tuner going as I know many have gotten them. See ya.

NGK's are the best I ever had. They Work.

Champions are NOT sparkplugs!!!! they are painted scrap!!! In the past I had at least 2 plugs blown out and NOW I wont ever buy them again. Here's my thread of last week:
https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/026681.html

BTW mine is a 2.8 but maybe this helps.
