I have a premium EQ stereo on my 87 GT that can't keep the cassette inside, I put in a cassette then it goes to both sides of the tape and it spits it out. The tapes are good. Any ideas?

Thanks

Cassette rubber band is shot. Get a cassette rebuild kit. Fiero Store might have them.

I was under the impression that the rubber band was to play the tape, to turn the gears, my tape gets ejected. I just checked the Fiero Store and they describe my problem, I will get the kit. Thank you very much for the advise.

Hopefully the repair kit works. I installed the kit and it still did the same thing. I installed a GM cd player. I had another GM vehicle that did the same thing, I don't think the cassette mechanism is very reliable. When I had mine apart I saw the cassette part was made by Blaupunk(sp).

Yeah, it's most likely the belt. The take-up reels don't turn so it ejects the tapes.

If you want to stick with the factory original cassette with EQ I have one that works, I'd be willing to sell for $50, about to list it in the mall

Thanks for the offer, I'll try the kit first and then if it doesn't work I'll look for another stereo.
