I just got an 88 fiero that has over 100+k miles on it. I want to make this car reliable, so any recommendations on what I should replace?

I had the balljoints break on me before so tahts definitely something I wanna replace.

Just check everything. Im a firm believer of 'if it aint broke, dont fix it'. I really wouldnt do anything except filters and oil unless you find something wrong. I dont know how many times I seen people just fix something that they just 'thought' should be replaced only to cause much more grief than if they had left it alone.

I carry an extra Dist. cap + rotor, ignition module, fan belt and spark plug wires in mine.

I agree with if it ain't broke concept, but it can't hurt to carry a spare. I've been to enough places and heard "We don't work on them ferrin cars" to plan ahead.

I'd say give the car a good and thorough checkup... Check all the sensors, belts, gaskets, suspension/cooling parts and electrical wires/connections!

I'm in that process at this moment, only thing I found (or not found ) thus far is a missing thermostat

I always do a complete tuneup on any used car I buy. A new oxygen sensor would be a good idea, new filters, dist cap and rotor, maybe ign. wires. Check rotors and pads. Have front end checked for looseness. Check shocks and struts. Check battery and cables. I would also flush all fluids, engine oil, brake fluid, clutch, transmission and coolant. What model of 88 Fiero do you have?

i agree with roger.change the oil and tranny fluid.
keep in mind that some fiero parts r hard to come by,so if u see something u might need later, buy it and store it away for later.
myself ive got some "might need" parts in my garage just in case, that way i dont spend 3 months lookin to find a part when something does break
