My left headlight is slow and jerky comming on. I can here the motor running for about 10 seconds after the headlight is up or down completely. Is the motor going out? Or is there an adjustment i should be checking?

the headlite mechanism rubs on two small strips under the bottom of the headlite cover to push it up. Try cleaning any dried up goop off them and coating those spots with some waterproof lube. If you open the hood and look at the bottom, youll see where Im talking about. Thats one of the things that causes that and the simplist to fix.

Is the car 84-86 or 87-88? 87-88 sounds like the plastic rods are going/gone. Easy fix, about $10 and maybe two hours work the first time.

Notchbacks Rule
84 Coupe(project car)
85GT(show car)
86???(looking)
87SE (daily driver)
88Coupe (daily driver)

what year car?

if its an older one try this:

usually if the motor keeps spinning when the light is all the way up or down, the plastic gear inside is stripping out.

Its odd that your spins for 10 seconds, and then stops.

Just a little tidbit of knowledge: The 1987-later headlight system (with the HL controller module) seems to have a time limit, in addition to the current-sensing circuit.

If you let a headlight motor run freely (unconnected from the HL mechanism), powered via the controller, it'll run for about 10 seconds, then quit.

Therefore, I'm guessing it's a 1987 or later Fiero, and the pins need to be replaced, just as posted earlier.
