how do you change the transmission fluid in the muncie 4speed? can you use syncromesh transmission fluid? how much do you need?

There is a drain plug in the bottom of the 4 spds. A 15mm wrench / socket is needed.

To fill it you need to pull the VSS in the top / rear of the trans.

2 quarts of Syncromesh will do.

Make sure you clean around the VSS before pulling it, that will keep any crud from falling in the trans.

If you want to be exact on the amount to fill, on the lower housing of the VSS you will see min and max fill lines.

The correct amount of transmission fluid on the '84 Muncie 4-speed is 2.8 quarts according to the manual. There is a fill hole on the left side at the back of the housing just above and behind the left axle shaft. You run it in there with a funnel and plastic or rubber tube until it runs out the hole. The drain hole is eirectly below that point underneath the back edge of the housing.

And GM synchromesh fluid works fine.

LOL, I am changine my trans fluid tommorow (munci 4spd) with synchromesh. SO this threads works well for me. LOL
