I have been playing with my tach and stuff and thought well what would happen if I ran the tach lead to my MSD 6 rather than through the factory coil pickup. Well it worked. Then I thought, how bout I ditch the tach filter and was waiting for a jumpy tach, but it never got jumpy. Just perfect smooth operation. Has anyone else done this and how has it turned out. For those of you that arnt aware all MSD 6 seris ignition boxes have a tach output on the side of the box.
I am gonna try to run without it for now and see what happens.

I have the Crane Fireball ignition in my car and you do run the tach of the ignition box. Even if you don't have an aftermarket ignition you can still just jumper out the tach filter and run the car that way.

With any MSD Ignition box just hook it up according to directions, then remove the tach filter and jump the filter leads together- your done- less than a five minute job, no rewiring required. !
A quick question....I was unaware that you could hook up a MSD ignition and get away with it. Isn't there conflicts with the factory ECM and EFI? I have been unable to get an answer from anywhere on this...Thanks..
BTW, mine is an '84SE 2.5l.

I run a MSD 6AL on my Iron Duke Indy,And it does RUN! However my entire ECM has been removed which would suggest there was a conflict. Unfortunately the engine was modified before I owned the car so I can't be positive.

MSD makes harness adapters so you can plug the MSD box into any of the NON DIS cars. If you have a DIS 4cly you would need a special MSD unit for that. The MSD really does not interact with the ECM at all. It only amplifies the coil pulse and gives you multiple sparks instead of one small one you get 3 or so large sparks and over 3000rpms you get one really huge spark.

No, the OE ignition module acts as a trigger for the MSD box. The MSD box drives the ignition coil and therefore releives the stress from the OE ignition module output amplifier.
I have an MSD6A and MSD GM Blaster coil on my '84 SE. The tack plugs into the MSD box. No problem except that the '84 coil das a differant pin out then th eBlaster coil. Check the NSD web page for th einstructions for hook-up. Be carfull and it's like falling down. I mounted my MSD box in the trunk on the wall between the trunk and engine compartment.

An MSD 6A box will fit any Fiero engine with a distributor. For the later DIS Duke Engines MSD makes a unit that is compatible as well. As they operate externally to it, MSD ignition boxes have no adverse affect on the function of the ECM. The do have an effect on the spark and power- they both go up.
