Can anyone tell me the difference between the Fiero 2.8L and the Longitudinally mounted 2.8. I have noticed that Edelbrock's intake manifold and cam kit are listed for the Longitudinal 2.8. Will these work on a Fiero 2.8L V6? I would sure appreciate the help!

In regards to the intake...

On engines mounted longitudinally, the engine has a small slope toward the rear. The mounting flange for the carburetor is angles so that the carburetor will sit horizontal on the engine. This is required for the float bowls to fill/and sit and the proper level.

A 2.8 in a Fiero sits flat with no slope between the water pump end and flywheel end. The carburetor with sit high at the flywheel end of the engine, and low at the water pump end. Whether there is enough slope to really screw up the carburetor's adjustments, I don't know, but there may be problems. That would be why they don't recommend the intake for FWD application engines.

A solution would be to machine the carburetor mounting flange flat to use the intake on a Fiero engine.

Yes, They will work. Taijiguy has had no problems with his set-up. The reason they specify those years, Is because the GM trucks had Carb's on them and it is designed as a direct replacement for those vehicles.
Per Edlebrock, "The manifold and cam can be used on ANY 60* V-6 with cast heads. There is no manifold for the aluminum heads."

Just what is the difference in pistons from an Iron head 60* and the Aluminum head V6..May be a stupid question here, but what would happen if someone were to put iron heads on a FWD V6 without changing the pistons? Just a thought....

It would make a perfect engine to run lotts of boost on, because it would have very low compression. The FWD engines have deep dished pistons. There aluminum heads make up for the space, they are close to flat, somewhere around 27 CC's comes to mind.

Hmm, running a turbo on a carb'd engine would seem a bit difficult. So, I reckon I'd change out the pistons then from an S-10 or Fiero, and the same with the heads...I'm lookin for a quick solution to get my car back on the road for now. Can't seem to ever make up my mind as to what I want to do or use. Doggone Libra's are so indecisive, lol...
