I got an 87 4banger, and a 97 saturn sl2 for the trips and casual drive. i know this might be at the wrong forum and stuff..but i dont know where else to go. i want to turn my automatic saturn into a standard. i cant find any junk saturns around here, so can anyone help me with what other trannys can fit into a 97 saturn sl2? i've axed a few mechanics where i work, and they dont know which ones will fit, im hoping some of you will. and yes, i have checked and researched... Someone please help me out here.

thanks, cor

That car is most likely OBD2. Most likely you can't just swap the tranny. Unless you have access to all the electrical and PCM stuff, get another car.

OBD2... Amost all cars built since 95-96 have it. Ask the Volvo service guys to explain it.

It means you need ALL the crap that came in a manual transmission Saturn. Which also means you need the wiring and either the whole PCM or the Software to reprogram the PCM you have. The car will not run right without a complete reprogram of the PCM.

To make this worse.... Many OBD2 modules besides the PCM are interconnected and you may have to deal with other issues as well. GM Airbag controllers (SDMs), ABS controllers, and BCM (Body Controller Modules) are tied to the OBD2 network with the PCM.

The car WILL NOT opperate properly if at all unless all modules are properly configured with the right software and in many cases the vehicle's VIN number is programed into each module. If the VIN numbers in various modules don't match then the car may not even start.
