All,
As some of you know, I am working up a SBC 327 into an 88' coupe. I have couple of questions for those who've been there.

1. On the V8 conversions, what kind of exhaust headers are the "choice" sets to use? There is a large selection of headers to choose from on SBC's, but which ones fit the Fiero application into an 88'coupe. I only want to screw with my exhaust system one time.

2. Are there any special items of interest I should know when removing and blocking off the original block fuel pump? Does this alter the flow of any oil galleries or something you wouldn't normally think of?

Any info is always appreciated.
Thanks.

There are a large number of discussions on this topic. I suggest you do a search and review what others have to say before drawing your own conclusion as to your first question. The opinions vary.

IMO:

1) Sandersons CC90 or CC2; and

2) nope

Rams horn manifolds. They'll last 30 years or more, headers about 6-7 depending on where in the country you are.

I'm using L98 Vette tubular steel exhaaust manifolds(they kinda look like shorty headers), but I had to fabricate a bracket to place the alternator closer to the bottom of the engine(where the A/C would have been. I also had to trim one of the little "ears" off Archie's front motor mount that mounts the a/c.

Thanks,
I've been doing a little searching and found opinions vary on this subject. I suppose that major factor is what kind appllication are you putting together. I have spoken with one person who is running stock exhaust manifolds. I was kind of hoping for a little more input from the V8 world. Oh well, play it by ear I guess. Thanks for help.

Archie has said he runs the Sanderson headers on any V8 car he builds with headers. Otherwise, use the ram horn manifolds.

West Coast Fiero has posted pics of some headers that come back and look like they join to a Y-pipe that would allow you to use the rest of the stock routing for the exhaust. I haven't seen these installed in a car, yet. With the amount of piping in that setup, I'd be concerned about maintenance access until I saw it installed in a car so I could see first hand.

88Ironduke:
1) As previously stated, V8Archie uses Sandersons. I use the old Corvette Ram Horns.
2) As for the fuel pump... Use a fuel pump block-off plate AND!!! plug the LOWER of 2 bolt holes beside the timing cover(pump side). If you don't, you'll have oil all-over your new install as soon as you rev the sh!t of of it! (the upper hole was used to lock the fuel pump shaft when installing a pump). Use a 1/2" length bolt. It's a common problem!

Some guy down in austin texas named eric marsh made a set of 180 degree headers for his V8 install.
They both exited similar to the west coast fiero headers but they looked way more wicked.
I used to have some pic's of them but they got lost.
Maybe archie could come up with a pic or two.
I read about it on fiero tech-net.

edit: found the pics here
