I just did a search for offset and found a thread where someone said that the offset for the 88's is different than previous years. My question is what offset should I look for? I've been searching Ebay for some inexpensive 16"or 17" rims, but most of the time there is either no offset listed or its 40+. Im a little confused?

stock 88's v6 anyway wheels have narrower fronts by a inch then the rears both are different from pre 88 spec by a little in offsets but not alot
keeping narrower fronts is a good idea even if going wider all around and to a biger dia. wheels

Question wonder and be wierd

I've got 17x7 fronts and 17x8 rears with 40mm offset on all of them. They're almost exactly lined up with the body in the front and rear. I don't think I could have done much better; perhaps another 5-10mm offset in the rear, but that's about it.

General concesus is....it depends on what you want. Some people just want the biggest wheel they can fit, some want a balanced suspension, some want the cheapest they can find, some want a specific design. I wanted a very neutral balance between the front and rear (no understeer or oversteer in stock form)...and I definitely got that. I'm hoping to use my swaybars to dial in a little oversteer later, but for a daily driver the neutral setup is nice.

I ended up getting Konig Tantrums with Kumho Ecsta 712s, by the way. I wanted some TSWs originally, but was told that their wheels are usually heavy (they were about 2 lbs more per wheel), and that their offsets aren't always exactly as advertised. I am glad I went with the Tantrums, as they suit my car better than the VX1s I was going to get.

Oh yeah, I got my entire wheel/tire package from discount tire for 1150 bucks...very good deal for what I got.

If I remember, I think 88 rear offset is 41mm, and 88 front is 37mm (hmm.. that almost sounds backwards). Anyway, for fronts on an 88, you want as large an offset you can get to reduce scrub radius. Something around 40mm or so will work fine. For the rears, pretty much any offset 35mm or greater will work (as long as the wheel/tire do not interfere with the suspension). On my 88, I have 55mm offset in the front, and 35mm on the rear. Remember the greater the offset, the more the wheel tucks under, the less the more it sticks out (at least in our world of FWD wheels).

Get as much offset on the front as you can. I have 48mm with 17x7" wheels.

40-42mm works pretty good for the rear, with 7.5" wide wheels. I have 42mm offset with 245/40 18's and the edge of the tire is lined up almost exactly with the edge of the fender. The wider you go, the more offset you need to keep them from sticking out.
