Any east way to remove yucky looking undercoating? I tried some heat...took forever, and it strips the factory paint. That isn't a bad thing i suppose, but working on 2sqin is annoying. Are any paint-removing products useful for this?

Maybe a high pressure washer with HOT water would speed things along. You might also consider spraying some GUNK engine cleaner or some other strong degreaser first to soften the stuff, then hit it with the high pressure wash. You may have to repeat this a couple of times.

Id try laquer thinner or better yet aircraft stripper. both can easily be obtained from your local wal-mart and can be applied with a rag, so as to not damage your other paint

Do a search for "Eastwood company" The website may be www.eastwood.com. I don't recall.. They sell an aerosol can of remover made just for that. I think it's called undercoating remover ... or something like that. Probably make your life a LOT easier!

Try Eastwood's Under Gone (#31130Z)($9.99). "For soft undercoating that can be imprinted with a thumbnail.... Biodegradable undercoat remover quickly loosens the bond of the undercoating to the base metal and allows you to easiily scrape it loose. Use the Under Gone Cleaner (#31131Z)($9.99) to remove any remaining residue for a 'paint ready' surface." Their store's only a ten minute drive for me, but you'll have to order by phone or online. http://www.eastwoodco.com/cgi-bin/sgsh0101.exe

Unless it's a rubberized undercoating it's petroletum based and kerosene and a putty knife will take it off.
