I see people throw this phrase around a lot on the postings: "Get yourself a 3.4 from a 93-95 F-body and swap it in." Ok. How easy is this, really? It's got to be more involved than just dropping in a new 2.8, for instance. What mods will have to be done? I have an automatic transmission. Would I need new axles to handle the additional power? What about the computer and wiring? Are there any brackets that need fabricated? Finally, why 93-95? Are those the only years they made those motors? Thanks.

search

Not trying to be a jerk, but there is SO MUCH info on this swap, it would take a long time to retype it all. It's been covered to death.

Search on "3.4 pushrod" or "3.4 F-body" or "Ed Parks" since he does the swaps in house. His website has more info.

I'm sure others will add more here. It's an attractive swap if you want a factory looking engine with a little more power than stock. You won't be a 12 second screamer, but you can get up near 200HP without a lot of trouble. The biggest hurdle is having to drill starter mounting holes on the other side of the block. Ed Parks, and other, do this or offer templates for you to do it yourself.

Thanks. I'll try that. In the meantime, if anyone wants to provide some info, I should also mention that my car is an 86 GT with an auto tranny.

Yep, just use the search feature and you'll find many of posts explaining exactly what's involved. I've posted the entire process several times. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to email me, as I have done this swap.

You mean that a 3.4 will fit in a fiero?

Yeah!

It's very easy except the drilling of the starter holes. If you have a guide plate though than it's a bolt in job.

I just started on this one myself. I bought a predrilled 3.4 with 5K miles on it from Loyde at FastFiero's. I'm hoping to pull the old engine tomorrow, and will (I hope!) not only be done by Monday, but will have it all documented online with pictures.

One word of advice, order your parts well in advance, and -make sure- you get the right ones. I had a few problems with some of the simplist things (like gaskets).
