Jeff ,
I've always used Mar-Hyde Black Satin automotive trim coating , part# 3811 , it seems to be a perfect match , not dull and not GLOSSY !!!! The can even has a picture of a red FIERO on it !!!!The problem for me is this stuff is getting hard to find....
Good luck ,

Jeff,

....or you could try Krylon semi-flat black. It's available most everywhere including K-Mart and Wal-Mart. You'll get a real nice smooth finish. Not too shiney, and not too dull.

I use SEM #39143 Original trim black that I get from http://www.eastwoodco.com/cgi-bin/sgdynamo.exe?HTNAME=default2.htm
I think their cat# is 10023Z. Looks great on both the grills and the b pillar/sail panel frames and mirrors.

Well I purchased the product from the eastwood company. I'll let you know what it looks like. My 88 GT with only 7000 miles the vents seem to be a semi gloss, after I paint my 87 grilles I'll let everyone know how they compair.

Well from what I have seen on a low milage garage stored car, they do have a shine to them...but I would be interested in seeing how the semi gloss compares to an original set.

Ok, I have applied 2 coats of the SEM #39143 Original trim black from the Eastwood company and compared it next to my 88, and it appears to me that the 88 grilles are darker black and do have a gloss to them. I will continue to apply a few more coats.

The saga continues...............

i painted them a gloss black using a hi-temp brake caliper paint and a hi-temp clear coat for engines and they look awsome! I also took the faded black inner part of the fastback part out and painted them a gloss black also with srap-any-way industrial black and automotive clear coat. It looks extreamly good

Thanks for your suggestions GTFIERO1, but I'm trying to restore them back to the factory finish and look.

There is no original paint code. The original part had an electrically bonded finish applied that you can't match with paint. The best you can do is a close resemblance to the original. A good satin black is best.

They're black. Pick your finish and be done with it.

Mar-Hyde trim black is a perfect match as stated above. Used it several times. You'll be very happy with it if you want to match the original.

Udate, after a few more coates I and compairing it to my 88 it appears to be satin. The only problem that I'm seeing is that the SEM #39143 Original trim black isn't a dark enough black. I'm going to try to locate the Mar-Hyde Trim paint and see how that compairs.
