I bought an a/c belt but have yet to put it on. It is getting very hot so today I ddecided to have a look at it. I see now that you must pull the alt belt first then put on the a/c belt. The problem is that I always have alt belt tension problems so I do not want to remove it unless I am pretty sure this will fix my a/c. I then tried to turn the pulley I cannot manually turn it is this bad. Please help

Yes, buy new/rebuilt compressor (don't bother with the junk yard on this), install, have an A/C shop pull a vaccuum on the system (or get a pump and do it yourself, you need like 29-30 in/hg vaccuum), put new refrigerant in! Oh yeah, replace the filter drier too!

Let us not forget that our Fiero A/C compressors are 14 to 18 years old and they have been called upon to work in a harsh and hostile environment. If you do any A/C work on a Fiero; spring for a NEW A/C Delco (Harrison) Compressor, accumulator, orifice tube, O rings on all fittings (all 14 of them), use Ester oil (8)z) and R-134A (you'll need three cans. Be sure to blow out or flush the lines and evacuate to 29"HG before charging. Ater charging with R-134A ( keep the cans upright) you will find that the low pressure switch on the accumulator needs to be readjusted for the the new refrigerant pressure. Usually an 1/8 turn of the screw (on the switch between the terminals) counterclockwise will do it.

I agree with Dennis except (1) a NEW compressor will cost you about $600 - you can get a rebuilt one with a 12 month guarantee from Kragen for around $200, and (2) I use Freeze 12 instead of 134a - for me, 134a doesn't get as cold in traffic because it's less efficient - it's only as cold as freon/freeze12 when you're moving (only about 50% of the time in LA)....
