ok guys,

I have been asking alot of dumb ass questions about the 3.8sc swap(i am sure) but I keep getting conflicting stories is on the wires and ECM.
I have heard that NO stock Fiero ECM is needed, and also heard YES is is needed.

ok so what is correct for my 98 GTP with a 5 sp getrag?

I am looking at my eng. and I have all the sensors connected and the ECM is sitting on a chair behind it.
I plan on putting the ECM in the area where the air cleaner can sits( I have been told that I should take out the stock ecm and put the new one there?).Routeing the wires is not the problem, it's like ...what now?
I would like to keep the stock guages working so I figure that I will just keep those wires from the org. harness in the engine bay and cut off the 3.8's??

What about the power??
I see a bunch of pink wires(power right?) but do I trace down the main power wire going to my ecm and splice into that?

Can I just take the engine harness off by the batt.with the one side of that connector(c500?) and follow those wires back inside to the ECM and cut those and use???

As ya'll can see I am at a dead end with the wiring ! I think I have been to ALL the 3.8 sites but the wireing seems very vauge.

If someone has a problem giving me answers here you can PM me.

P.S. I will keep bumping this to the top till I get this figured out !!

Thank ya'll

You don't need the stock Fiero ECM with your swap.

Your best bet would be to get the Helms manuals and do some legwork yourself since every year have some slight differences.

I hooked up a 99GP GTP engine into a fiero and when I did the 01GP GTP engine, most wires were in the same spot, but there were a couple that weren't. If I didn't have the Helms manuals, I would have been dead in the water.

power will be a piece of cake once you get the manuals. I think (going by memory) there are 11 or 12 wires that get "hot at all times" and a few that get "hot in run". Other wires include your gauges(Fiero to 3800 wiring harness), hooking up VSS and Rev Lights from the original Fiero Wiring harness, and making sure things like the fuel pump are wired up correctly (Fiero to 3800).

I don't see how you can get ALL the info you need without getting the manuals. If you can, you are a more resourceful than I am.

Well I do have the fiero ser. man. and sent off for the schematics for the engine wiring and have both in hand.

Should be easy!!!??? yea for you but I am just a F@#* ed up dude that is getting confused (maybe overwhelmed?) with the placement of the wires. I have had a elec. fire once already and not looking for a huge troubleshooting session after the engine is in.

So please make this as easy as possible for a very dumb person THEN I might have a handle on it. don't ya'll get it? I am stupid and need this made very simple.

Take one step at a time. I didn't say the whole job would be easy.

Step 1) Find your grounds -- these are usually easy because they have the big roung eyelets that are used to connect to the block via a bolt

Step 2) Look at your schematics and find all the relevant circuits that need power (schematics will designate "hot in run" and "hot at all times").

Don't get overwhelmed, it will come. Just take one step at a time. Write everything down so you don't get confused.

Do as Boilermaker says, do one circut at a time so you don't get confused. Once all those wire ends start to go away, it will get easier. A great majority of the wiring are positive and ground wires. Get those out of the way and all you have left are sensor wires.
Good Luck!

power comes from the big heavy square thingy that has lead plates in it. (and i don't mean your head... that is a steel plate)

you hook the red wire to a (-) sign and the black wire to a (+) sign.

I are good at wirin'!

good luck buddy... we should try and hook up before the RRR

I got the pinout diagrams from the dealership. They let me borrow the book for about a half an hour so I could make photocopys of it. You really need the pinouts, there are way to many circuits to try and figure all of them out over the net.
