My drivers side door has been hitting the bottom of my sail panel and it cracked the top of my door. I adjusted the hinges on the door so it lines up properly, but when i put the striker bolt back on, it pushes the door back up. Can i adjust the striker bolt up and down?, adding spacers doesn't help at all.
TIA Mike

You can adjust the striker, but you will have to remove it and file the hole it goes in. It has vey little adjustment if I remember correctly.

no need to change latch. the striker bolt is mounted in a nut in the jam. That nutplate is in a pocket that allows it to move maybe a 1/4 inch in any direction. Out away from center of car will keep the door out, in will move the door closer, up will raise it, down will lower it. best way is to mark with a pencil around the striker and washers if any, then, unscrew it out all the way and get your door lined up perfecly first without it. then put it back in where it was and close door carefully looking to see if it moves up or down when the striker starts going into the latch. What you want to achieve is the striker going perfectly into the center of the latch with no dragging on the top or bottom. Loosen and readjust as nec till you get that and your done. The washers on the striker are from the factory to adjust where the end of the striker goes into the latch, use the same ones they did, has no effect on the up or down movement of the door.

you cant remove it or get to it without a torch. Its in a steel pocket in the door jam. it sets in there loose so it can move around. The plate is smaller than the pocket and has a threaded nut welded too it that the striker bolt screws into. Where you really have a problem is if the nut welds break and it come off the plate
when you put the striker bolt in a couple of threads, youll see you can move it up and down and all around to diff positions. When you tighten it, locks the plate in position.

Roger and Mike, the strike plate isn't adjustable in all years. This was the first thing I checked when I got my car and found the door loose. Even when I took the pin out the nut plate didn't want to move.(an 87SC)

If the door is that worn, look at the latch. compair it to the passengers latch, which is usually far less worn. The Drivers door latch really needs replacing in allot of Fiero.

Someone once said you can get them from some other GM car but that was a long time ago and I don't think they ever posted waht other car they got it from.

Mike, if you had to adjust the hinges the pins/bushings are probably shot. The only good cure is replaceing them. There are notes in my cave about them.
