Okay,

I have now installed my holley ignition box in the left hand side of my trunk. I have heard others on the forum remark that the boxes get hot in the truck. I do not have the box mounted directly mounted on metal so I don't think radiation through the truck metal will be an issue.

My idea is to look at a computer supply store for a large computer cooling fan to move some air across the box. Since the computer is already 12V I believe there would be no issues with powering the fan. How does this idea sound to ya'll? I want to avoid problems before they begin.

I have my doubts about how hot one of those boxes needs to get before failing. My best friend had an MSD box fall onto a header and he drove like that for nearly an hour at highway speed. When he finally noticed the box was too hot to even touch yet it still runs to this day.
I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to cool it but I wonder if it it really necessary

We run a MSD 6AL in our corvairs engine compartment (Air cooled engine runs HOT) no problems ever.

Quite a few racers will run the box int he interior of the vehicle, I plan to run mine behind the drivers seat

MSD Boxes do run hot and having cool air circulate over them is probably the best idea for lonmg term reliability. However, when I installed my system I couldn't find a cool enough place in the engine compartment. I mounted the box in the trunk on the left side. So far no problems have occurred but I'm thinking of putting a miniature 2" computer fan over it. You can buy them at Radio Shack and you can hook it up to the switched power lead so it will be switched on and off with the ignition.
