I'd like to swap the "standard wheel" for the GT one. How annoying a job is it? What else do you need besides a "wheel puller"? do the horn paddles have a different connector then the GT horn? has anyone else done this?

Thanks guys/gals!

It is a pretty straight forward swap, remove the nut on the steering wheel, install puller, and remove the steering wheel. The horn activation is done differently, and you will need the plunger pin that goes with the GT steering wheel. It will work and plugs in the same hole that the paddle connector comes out of when you remove the wheel. The horn connector is removed by pushing it in and turning it a quarter turn.

When I changed my 4 spoke steering wheel to a 3 spoke GT style I found that the horn plunger for the GT wheel was impossible for me to find anywhere, so I just soldered a wire onto the GT horn button and used the 4 spoke horn pin. Works like a charm.

The horn plunger and button on the GT 3-spoke is nearly identical to the non-GT wheels that had the round horn button and 4 spokes from earlier Fieros too. So you could use one from another model Fiero... as long as it wasn't a wheel with horn paddles.

Older Firebirds also use the same steering hubs, so you can use the horn buttons off of them too (thats where I got the plunger for mine!).

Good luck!

Center GT rubber horn area just lifts out.. pry lightly.. I usually use my fingers. After that, you'll see the center dolt and clip, use screwdriver to pull thr clip out. then remove bolt and use puller to lift steering wheel.

won't take but 5 minutes..

Well, it's raining AGAIN, for the ump-teenthi time this week!

I got a puller, and did the swap today - it took five minutes, like you said it would.
I took pics, and will post 'em.
