I was looking on Autozone at their "Aimco" brand rotors with part #'s 5553 for front 43.99, and #5554 for rear 29.99. Aren't they the same whether it's for the front or rear axle? Is their a better suggestion or another car this can be cross-referenced to that might be cheaper but the exact same rotor?

Thanks,
Sean

Only the 88s share the same front/rear rotor.

And on the '88 note - remember that on the BACK ONLY of the '88 ONLY, you can use a '93 Cavelier FRONT rotor.

Mega cheaper, works fine in my car for the last 3+ months. Someone said you need to shave the pads down, I didn't. YMMV.

OK..were going in the right direction of what I'm asking about...what about if I ask for Chevette rotors? Are they the same? Cheaper? Any other GM cars that share the same setup?

Thanks,
Sean

i think the fiero is compatable with alot of parts gm used on their other cars. but i think the problem with autozone and or dealerships is that when they punch the name Fiero into their computers there is a 20% to 50% increase on the price. (not for sure but makes sense) no solutions but their is a berretta brake upgrade kit available.

Oh sure! The Chevette ones are much cheaper. But then you're stuck with having to redrill your mags to use the 4 stud setup they have.

In the long run, I think it's cheaper to do the front Grand-Am conversion. I just did it to mine (front only, I have '88 brakes in the rear) and I'm more than happy with it. Great stopping power (with a slight increase in pedal travel) and cheap parts from this point forward. Worth all the effort as far as I'm concerned.

FWIW: I had to grind an extra notch into my caliper bracket to clear the GA caliper that wasn't shown on any of the 'conversion pages' that I'd checked out, so be forwarned. Not a big deal, but a hair annoying that I couldn't get the caliper to bolt onto the bracket properly off the bat.

You need to make a "U" shaped notch in the bracket to clear one of the calipers ribs right near one of the brackets mounting holes - well I did anyhow!

If you buy Held motorosport's front drop spindles for an 84-87 then the rotors are the same front and rear.

I have held drop spindles in the front with the GA brakes and 88 rear. I am very happy with it.

Front rotors (84-87) are a one piece rotor/hub assembly that is why they are more expensive/different than the rear.

The rear rotor is a traditional slip on, solid rotor - and the price is ridiculous compared to what you can get for other cars for alot less.

To find an exact drop in for the rear rotor you would have to find a front wheel drive car with the same bolt pattern that came with solid front rotors - I am not aware of any FWD GM car that came with solid front rotors.

The fact that the rotor is not vented is what makes the Fiero casting unique and probably what drives the price up.
