Allright, you guys probably saw my post a few days ago on this topic, but I didn't ask the right question.

I replaced my EGR valve, and it looks like my vaccuum hoses are all going where they should, but I'm still getting an EGR code on my check engine light, and my car still runs as if there is something wrong with the EGR valve. I'm thinking it might be the EGR solenoid, but I'm not sure.

Is there any way to temporarily stop exhaust gases from being recirculated, such as plugging up a vaccuum hose or something? I'd like to find out if it runs like it should if the EGR isn't being used...

Thanks guys! I appreciate it!

On my 86 v6 I was able to cap off the egr tube at the bottom of the plenum with a brass pipe cap fitting found in a typical hardware store under the plumbing section then i disconnected the egr from the exhuast and capped that off with a carb cap bought at the autoparts store. disconnected the battery to reset the ecm and no codes came up. unfortunatly I live in an area that requires emission testing. so i put it back togather. be careful not to damage the egr tube when taking off the plenum because the part is expensive.

Just disconnect the vacuum hose going to the EGR and plug it with a screw. Then start the engine If it is running better, spray some carb cleaner around the base of the EGR. If the car "stumbles" then you have a leak at the EGR. If it doesn't, spray where the EGR tube goes to the underside of the plenum (V-6). If it stumbles there, the EGR tube is cracked. If neither stumble, then turn off engine, hook up the vacuum hose feel from the under side of thr EGR where the dashpot is. You should be able to push it up. Start engine and push on the dashpot. If it moves (the car should stumble when you do this) everything should be working fine. If the engine is running bad and it doesn't change by moving the dashpot, you have a full vacuum line hooked to the EGR solinoid instead of a ported vacuum line or the solinoid is bad.

Full Vacuum = There is always a draw of vacuum.
Ported Vacuum = Vacuum is low at idle and increases with RPM.
