What's up with this?

Comparing my stock 88GT to my stock 86GT, the 88GT back end is one inch lower and the front end is one inch higher than the 86GT, making it 2" lower in back than the front. It actually looks a bit funny.

The 86GT looks correct, looking level and all that. The 88GT looks like the back end rides low. It's easily noticed. I've owned 2 other GTs, another 86 and an 87. They looked just as fine as this 86GT.

I read one of you mentioning your 88GT having a lower rear end. But I never researched it until this morning with a tape measure.

Is this the way the 88GT came from the factory? I know the previous/original owner did nothing special with the suspension.

Is something needing replacing, or is this normal for 88...the drooping rear end?

If you are wondering, both cars have factory wheels, and stock sized tires too. The 88GT has 27K, the 86GT has 79k miles.

Normal or not?

Its normal. My '88 does it. All '88s did it from the factory. I plan to lower mine soon.

It's not so much that the rear end is "drooping", but the front end is just higher.

If you look at an '86/'87 GT and an '88 GT the '88 rides higher in the front than the '86/'87, but the '86/'87 rides higher in teh back than the '88 GT (polar opposites, so to speak).

The reason, I believe, that the '88s front end rides higher has to do with the redesigning of the front suspension and the lowering of the front spring rate.

All that said......it is perfectly normal, albeit not asthetically pleasing, for the front end of an '88 to ride higher than the rear.

Lowering springs help neutralize things, but if you look closely you can still tell the front end sits a bit higher (not nearly as noticeable as stock).
