Posting this for someone that is unable to post. I believe he can read responces though.

=======================================

Hi Guys,

I recently purchased an 88 Fiero GT V8 without the original wheels.
I now have one set and they are on the car, a set of 16" Beretta GTZ wheels
with 245/50-16 on rear and 205/55-16 on front. The car handles really well
and responsive steering at speeds under 40MPH. BUT, when on the highway
above 55MPH I don't feel the car track well and almost need to have both
hands on the wheel.

I want to put a set on the car and use the existing tires.
They are AMERICAN RACING #106, they are FWD 16 X 7 rims with +42 offset and
55/8 backspacing. I really like these wheels and won't consider any others
either because I don't like them or can't afford them.
If you can tell me what backspacing and offset were on the original wheels I
could probably figure out what to do.
I even have the 6 inch thick dealer service manual and it never mentions the
wheel specs.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

FYI- I'm in search of a new or used:VENTED HOOD / FASTBACK OVER THE ROOF
DUAL AIR INTAKE SCOOPS / SUNROOF SHADE AND SUNROOF BAG.

Tell everyone about Pontiac day at the Indianapolis 500 on June 15th and
drive on the brickyard!

from the back of the wheel lying in my basement (stock 88GT) : 37mm FRONT wheel,
can't see any offset info for the rear ones.

[edit: the rear & front ARE different wheels, larger rear.]

The rears on all 15" GT wheels are 35mm. 86/88 (15"x7")

That's not quite right...

The '88 front wheels are 15 x 6 x 37mm
The '88 rear wheels are 15 x 7 x 30mm

I have confirmed the above through measurement.

I've been told that all of the 15 x 7 lace wheels have the same offset, but since I've only measured an '88, I can't positively confirm or deny.

Whats wrong with it?
He did quote "rears" not the fronts.
But thanks for the additional info!

This might help you out a little. The wheels are 16x7.5 front / rear with a 5 3/8" offset/backspacing, tires are rear 245x50, front 215x50. The car is lowered 1 1/2" front and rear with no tire clearance issues to fender wells (but it's close).

Note: Wider tires are going to be a little more sensitive to road tracking, if your front end alignment is off a little it can be a handful. You might want to us a road course setting on the front where the wheels are "tipped" just slightly outboard (similar to Indy car), works great on mine (don't have specific numbers to give you, but it doesn't take very much and you won't notice bad tire wear).
