From a daily driver and mild street racer standpoint, which would be better for the rear wheels.

17" 245 series
or
18" 265 series

Both fronts will be 17" 225's. The engine pushing them is a 3.4 with lots of mods with just over 200hp.

I must make my buying decision in a few days. I would like the better traction so I wouldn't spin on takeoff, but unsprung weight shouldn't be overlooked. I've never felt the difference, so I'd like to hear your opinions. I enjoy corners as well as take offs.

Thanks!
Greg

Personally I'd go for the 245/40R17's! That's what I had on my 87GT with a 3.4 and was very pleased.

I would say go for the 245. Unless you have 300+HP the 245 should hook up fine.

Just to add to what GTDude said,
It all depends on the series you go up front. if you go 225/45/17 up front you will have a 25inch tire. If you go 245/40/17 in the rear you will have a 24.7incher. Not much but I think it would be noticable.
A 40 series looks (to me) like there isnt enough sidewall.

If I had 17's I would go 225/45r17 front and 245/45/17 rear.

Smaller tires/wheels get the power to the ground faster, yet a bigger tire/wheel will give you more distance in one rotaion. six of one, half dozen of the other. As far as width goes... well a 245 is plenty. in fact considering you said 200 hp I would go with the 235 and save just a little bit of wieght.
