Im looking at a turbo engine, and was wondering where people have mounted their intercoolers? Where are they mounted in MR2's? Has anyone produced custom vents for them, or mounted them at the front and piped it back? (I probably won't do that one) Any help appreciated.

I've seen one mounted to the trunk wall, but there's a lot of piping there. I would like to see one put right above the turbo where the left vent is. If you could spin the turbo around so the compressor faced to the left, and ran a pipe from there back to the right, there should be room for an intercooler. You'd probably want a scoop to go over the hood too.

I don't have a turbo-d Fiero, but one of our clubs members does. Because the Fiero's engine compartment is pretty cramped for cool air flow, he used an air-to-liquid system. He pumps cooled liquid between the intercooler at the intake and a small radiator (trans cooler?) up at the front of the car. I believe this allows you to use a smaller intercooler as well.
I don't know a thing about turbo but there must be someway to do it. I've see Acura NSX with an intercooler mounted in a crazy wide mouth front bumper. If they can run the lines to the back, there must be someway we can too in the Fiero... No?

Where the battery used to be? Driver's side vent where the stock v6 air filter is?
There's really a lot of room in there, how about in the trunk? You're in new territory with any turbo, engineer!
Best! Ben.

Here's an idea to play with, remove the bottom lower half of the rear trunk and weld in a new floor. Now you have room under the trunk to package it, you'll need a simple thermal shield if you package real close to the muffler. You can fabricate an inlet scoop facing forward and have the intercooler at an angle for better flow through...........Just brain storming.

Jeeezzz guys its not this hard. Forget about air-to-air intercoolers. Just install a Water to air one and put the water cooler infront of your radiator and run the line back to your trunk where the actual intercooler will be.

The trunk is a hot thermo box, Ok to package NOS in there, then you don't need a warmer blanket for the tank. Thought the object was to pass cool air through it to cool the air inside it.
