Ok, I got a #9 woodruff key at the hardware store, which is the one the manual calls for for the 2.8 crank. I can't get it to go into the slot. Is there any special way to do this. Also which way does the crank sprocket go on, Bevel in or out? TIA

Make sure that all your edges are square. This includes the key and the crank slot and the balancer slot. Some filing may be necessary to fit properly, just go slow with it and keep it as square as you can.
The crank gear should have a dot on it to time the crank and the camshaft. Therefore it (the dot), faces out.
