Is there any benefit from using the multec injectors vs. using the pintle style? In my How To Rebuild Your GM 60* V6 book, it says the multec injectors are self cleaning and were used on later models. I was just wondering if anyone had any info on this.
In my article on the 700 series TBI theres a link to some of Delphi's info on the various injectors they make. Multec being one of the current product lines......
If the port injectors compair like the 300 vs. 700 TBI ones, you would be better off with the newer style if you can get them.

I found the multec injectors on my 86Gt parts car. I was going to take just one, but then found it wasn't the pintle style that my formula has. I thought it was strange that a later model injector was on an older car.
I'm going to use the multec's from my 86GT. All the injectors are the same except one. There is a number on the side of 5 the injectors, D3581BA. On the 6th injector, the number reads D1580BA. This injector is shorter in height than all the others and has a blue stripe in the middle. On the other side of the injectors is another number, FJ 9. This is on ALL the injectors. My question is, is this 6th injector a mismatch, will it cause problems? The GT ran poorly when I got it, and other than the rebuild, it looks like it received no regular maintenance, so I don't know if the injector was affecting performance or not. Should I look for an injector to replace it? What do you think?

use an Multimeter on Ohms and check resistance of the injectors. Biggest failure on Multec injectors is the windings shorting out. You should have about 12.8 ohms (from memory). A bad one will read less, usually way less. If you need injectors for a 2.8L check out Lindertech.com. They have an upgrade to the later style DRI injectors that have fewer problems and a set of 6 remans costs about the same as 1 or 2 remans at NAPA.

All the later models carry the multec injectors because they are self cleaning. Any that you replace should be multec too. I don't think they even rebuild the pinticle style injectors.

Tomorrow I'm going to go down to Linders (lucky for me it's less than a mile away)and see if he can help me with my fuel injector problem. I'd rather not buy a whole set if he can sell me just an individual injector, but I guess you have to do what you have to do sometimes. Thanks for letting me know about Linders, I totally forgot about them. I can't wait to get my car running.

If you mean all the later model Fieros have the Multec (disc style) injectors, nope. Used to think the same thing, but when i got my '88 Formula (supposed to be untouched - and I concur based on the rust and scum level!) all apart it had the pintle style in it! Luckily found a set of disc type at the wreckers for cheap and ran those instead.
As for not rebuilding them... we have lots of places around here that do it - matter 'o fact a buddy just had a set of 19lb's redone that he's running on his punched and warmed 2.8
They rebuilt and blue printed my factory pintle injectors. They also recomend(to me anyway) to avoid the multecs as they tend to lean out at higher rpm. This was a while ago, so my memory is fuzzy about this.
