The alternator, that is. My alternator went out on me yesterday. The cheapest replacement I could find was $57 plus tax. Instead, I decided to just buy a kit and rebuild mine. Well, now the system seems to be over charging. The needle is almost in the red on the high end.

Any ideas?

Take a look at the voltage regulator. It's settings are a minimum of 13.5volts & a maximum of 16volts. You should be able to go to a parts store and have them check it out.

Ok. First the alternator is undercharging. The test bench at Auto Zone said bad diode. It was only putting out 2-3 volts. After I installed the rebuild kit and put it into the car, The volt meter light stays on and the needle is almost to the red (I know, your thinking, "he said this already"). But, doesn't the rebuild kit come with a voltage regulator? Or are they just diodes? What was that white brick thing with the new male prongs (the one that the alternator wire plug into)? I know that these types of alternators are internally regulated so, if it is bad, can I buy a new one?

If the gauge is almost in the red....it's overcharging......and yes the white thing is the regulator and yes you can buy it separately.
