I was wondering what type of paint I can get to paint the intake Bright yellow. I have the engine out, and want to do the whole engine bay Black and yellow. What type will hold up to the heat of the intake? I cant find and Yellow manifold paint. Also where can I get it. Canadian Tire seems to have a pretty small selection.
Thanks
Kyle

Forum member stimpy used yellow powdercoat on his plenum / valve covers, and they turned out very sharp... something to consider, anyway.

BTW, used the usual "500-degree engine paint" on my plenum and valve covers, so far it has held up very well. Don't rememeber seeing yellow, though, sorry.

How much would powder coating the Plenum and rocker covers cost? Where can I get it done? I am guessing you cant just do it yourself without special equipment? What is powder coating exactly?
Thanks

I used yellow engine enamel and some orange on my intakes and rocker covers. I scuffed the hell out of the original powdercoat and covered it with the engine enamel. Looked great till a mechanic spilled some kinda fluid on it. If you use it, you may want to use a clear coat over it.. just to be safe... held up great till the fluids hit it though. got it at a Murray's Autoparts here in Michigan

You can get a powder coat kit to do it your self. It is avalible from eastwood company. put a search on the net. It runs 199.95 I think. All you need is to bake it in a oven. one that is not used for food. Search the yellow pages for someone in you area. Also I think vht makes yellow paint. Try jegs or summit.

Now that you mention it, I did put hi-temp clear (e.g. - DupliColor P/N DE1636) over the hi-temp paint. Just for the purty gloss shine it gives.

Yup..If you use that high temp clear that Stu mentioned above, you should be good.. Just rought up the old finish REALLY good, and you should be fine... Mine does still look really nice... and I'll prob so the same to my new GT when I repair the engine this summer..(I'll just clear it this time). Mine's been painted for about 2 yrs now and it's not flaking or anything.

If you can get a powdercoat kit, it'd be a bit better, but you need the $200 gun AND you need a compressor, then the extra oven.. so it gets costly depending on budget...

Hey,
find a place in the Eglington/Dixie area of Mississauga called Byers/Bush , I'm not sure if that is the exact spelling. They do powder coating and if you can wait till they are doing a run of the color you want it might not be too expensive. Once you find out where they are you may want to try aproaching a nigh shift supervisor(at night obviously!) as I have "heard" things occasionally getting thown in the line for a case or two of BEvERages If they had to change the run over just for you it will cost too much so the key is to find out when they are running 'your colour'.
Something else to consider is that you'll be stuck with whatever shade the powdercoat is as this can't be "mixed", well not cheaply anyway. Matching other paints might be difficult.
Cheers...
