Ok here is the deal i just pulled an engine from my 86 gt and put in my 85 Se. The problem is it does not want to start right away, if i stay at it for awile, i can get it to start. But,it will idle from about 1000 down to 700rpm and die. After it warm up it will idle fine at about 950/1000rpm it throws codes 14 and 42 im thinking ignition module, what silicone do you use for install? Also as for the code 14(coolant sensor) this is the one with the black and yellow correct? I heard this can affect startup also. Thanks for any help

Did you take the computer along with the engine? Or at least transplant the chip?

Yes, the computers are different. Easy enough to do to check it.

Then I suggest you find an 86 4-speed chip, unless someone else has a better idea.

I had an 85 GT 4-speed for a while, happened to have a spare 86 4-speed chip. Plugged it into the 85's ECM just to see what would happen, and the car ran like sh*t. Hard starting, and loping idle. Didn't let it run long, shut it down and put the original back in, started the car and it ran fine.

Chips ARE different . . .
