Hi, How to determine the Piston Head Volume?? I saw dif types of dished pistons and want to calculate the correct compression ratio to build my engine.

Here is an example from kb sylvolite site:

1.
V6 207
3.4 L
3.622(IN)
92(MM)

CHEVY
ENGINE

Lumina APV, Venture. VIN E. 3.15" dia. head recess .260" deep.

Comp. Ht. 1.470
Pin Dia..9055 Offset

This one is that interest me, but dont know to calculate the piston head volume.

2.
V6 191
3.1 L
3.504(IN)
89(MM)

CHEVY
ENGINE
Iron Head. 2.95" dia. head recess .106" deep. TBI,APV only.

APPROXIMATE HEAD VOLUME=12cc

Comp. Ht. 1.450
Pin Dia..9055 Offset

Another question is, What Coated skirts means?

Thanx for your help.

Unless the manufacturer can give you the info you'd have to have one of the pistons to figure it out. Both involve measuring liquid, how much liquid fills the dish on a dished piston and how much liquid it takes to make a domed piston "flat", if that makes any sense. You should really do the same to any cylinder head too as usually there can be quite a range in a factory head. A graduated cylinder will work although a pipette is prefered(find at chemistry supply places). Then the math is pretty easy.

seems to me this is basic geometry. Remember when you had to figure out the volume of a cylinder by only knowing its measurements? Same thing here.

You know how deep the dish in the piston is. You can measure the diameter of the the dish.

Pi X(multiplied) the radius squared will give you a measurement that you will need to figure out the volume. Sorry but I dont' know the otehr equation. Its been quite sometime since I took any formal geometry class but this should get you started in the right direction of figuring out how many cc's or liters the dish is. Then recompute that into your equation for figuring out compression ratio and VOILA.

Maybe?

the problem is that I dont have the pistons to measure them. Just only the data I write and a pic from the silvolite web site.

Thanx anyway.
