Alright... does my 1988 GT fit in the "Money-Pit" category or what? For 2-3 months I have bought a new Fuel-Pump Relay Switch, MAP Sensor, Oil Pressure Sender and this week an Ignition Module. I'm at the point that I can just cry! I've tried everything and still the car starts up and dies immediately after it has been running hot. I am just glad that this GT isn't my daily driver. I need to figure out this problem or I'll go nuts! PLEASE HELP!!!

Did you replace the pickup coil in the distributer?

I'd also look at/replace the ignition coil. It sounds like it is definitley something ignition related, so since you've already replaced the module the pick up and ignition coils are the only things left.

Jelly2M8...

I will look into that ASAP! Is it easy to replace the Pickup Coil? Where is it exactly located? Thanks for the information!

Mr. Fiero...

Thank you too for the information. One question though! The Fiero Store carries the V-6 Ignition Coil in two versions; the standard V6 Ignition Coil and the Performance V6 Ignition Coil - any recommendations which I should buy?

It's easy and a PITA at the same time. You must6 remove the distributor and disassemble ti to get at the old pick up coil (and to install the new one). It isn't hard, but time consuming and you need to carefully mark where the distributor is pointing before yanking it out (also replace the O ring!!).

No problem. I have been there before! I limped home about 20 miles once when an ignition module went south on me. I could drive it for a few miles before it overheated and stalled......after a few minutes it cooled off enough to drive another few miles, etc.

As for the coil......if you have a stock engine I would just get a stock coil. I have had bad luck with the Accel stock looking coil (not the Super Coil), but have heard good things about the MSD blaster.

For now you are probabaly better off getting a stock replacement.

BTW.....(and this is for anyone who reads this) it is a good idea to carry a spare ignition coil and ignition module with you......especially on long trips. It can be a lifesaver if one poops out in the middle of nowhere!

The E-Tron V6 Ignition Coil from the Fiero-Store - are those highly recommended?
Any other suggestion where I might be able to buy these without having to wait 3-4 days for it to arrive to my place? Thanks again, you have been of great help!
