I ordered a lowr temp fan switch and it decided to be defective - so i just went and grounded the connector so the an is always on when the ignition/car is on. I was curious as to whether this lowers the performance of the car? also, my car already gets bad gas mileage (clogged cat i think) --- would this make it any worse?

wont really affect anything, except your alternator will work a little more, and youll wear out fan motor faster.

Nope but the clogged cat can perminantly damage your car though, your exhaust manifolds will normally glow red, however i ran my fan on with igition for 5 months until i replaced the fan relay under the headlight.

well, the cat may not be clogged per se - i think its just all busted up inside, rattles when i idle after starting the car... Someday I'm going to empty out the broken bits so its quieter/nicer.

Thanks for the tips on the fan switch!

Eventually it will empty itself out of all the bits and pieces and your muffler will be the dust pan collector.
