I'm thinking of picking up These wheels but am unsure if its a wise choice because I plan on putting 245/40's on the back and 215/45's on front. I've been told that in order to do this combination I should have at least a 7 1/2 width to make them look right.

Can anyone give me an idea of what the wheels will look like with this combination? The handling or anything isn't affected by this, correct?

Thanks
Adrift

I don't even think a 245/40 would stay on... I've seen 245/45/17 on a 7", but it looks kinda silly.

On my met red t-top car I'm going with 235/45/17 rear (and 215/45/17 front) which is about the biggest I'd put on a 7" wide wheel. Man I wish they were 8" in the rear! (ho well :S)

I'll post pics when the new tires are on *monday!*

Best!
Ben.

I was hoping to get 7.5 or even 8 but for some reason they're next to impossible to find in the style I want ! I know they are available though because Dkov just sold a pair (Konig Reigns).

Discount Tire Direct dosen't seem to have them in the proper size! :~(

As an example, C5 Corvettes run a 245/45-17 front tire on a 17 x 8.5 wheel. I don't think I'd go that wide on a 7.

Hmm... new idea:

17x7" front with 215/45-17 tires
18x8.5" rear with 255/35-18 tires

This link listes the minimum and maximum wheel widths for a certain tire width.
http://www.mofugas.com/resources/default.asp?main=galant&sub=tire
The min for 245s is 6.75" (according to them) but I wouldn't put 245s on anything less than 7.5". I just put Kuhmo 245s on 16x7.5" wheels and they fit very nicely.

FYI, I have 245/40/17 rears on 8" wide wheels and 214/45/17 fronts with 7" wide fronts. These wheel and tire combos are perfectly matched to eachother and to the car. Oh, they're all 45mm offset wheels.

I can't see the wheels, but I'd say don't go with a 245 on anything smaller than 7.5, as it will bulge out and look goofy. Some people put the widest tire they can possibly fit looking for a wide contact patch, but really just end up with a strange look because the wheel looks too small.

My 2 cents.
