The other day I shut my door, and my door striker broke off..it must have been loose for some time. Upon further inspection I see that the door is sagging, and I will need new hinges?!?...Does anyone know how much inges will cost, where to get them and how to get the striker back on? I am assuming it would have to be welded. Does anyone know how much this might cost? As every mechanic I talk to says they dont want to touch it, and even one body shop said that.
Thanks
Kyle

I don't think that you'll need * new * hinges.. Just a door pin and bushing kit!! Good luck with the striker!! Steve *Smooth*

Face it - yer average mechanic is scared crapless of Fieros. We have bad press!
Most autopart stores in my area have about 30 square feet of pegboard with little orange cards with little neato miscellaneous stuff in 'em. I think they're called AutoHelp or MotorHelp or some such. I've seen door bushings, hinge pins and replacement strikers among many other things. Even if you don't find what you need, it's just fun to LOOK at all that stuff!

The Fiero Store has the striker bolts. I just bought two for $8.95 a piece. Mine are a little worn so I decided to replace them. You might have to remove your inside paneling to get access to the broken bolt to take it out. Rodney Dickman had the hinge rebuild kits if Im not mistaken, you can also find them on Ebay or the Fiero Store again.

Drivers door on GT I recently bought also needs pins and bushings replaced. One of the rivets which holds door skin on, on bottom, is starting to make indentation on trim under door. Long scratch mark from opening and closing. I recall seeing a write up on this repair somewhere. Anybody know where we can find it?

Kyle, check out this thread https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/018472.html
I followed the advice there & went to another Autozone accross town and they had the pin& bushing set for $3.99-that repairs one hinge. You need 2 sets to do a complete door. Motormite # 38407 It says HELP on the package, hanging on one of the racks out on the floor. Haven't changed the bushings yet.
As for the striker pin, I don't know who would sell it new, ask in the Mall section here.

I know those things. Here they date from the mid-80's, and are red blister packs with "HELP!" on them.

The door striker is identical to any other GM car. Is the mount busted or can you just screw it back in?

Yah I am not sure I need a striker though............mine came right out type thing........and the hole is 2 times the size it was previously as the door slamming has made it like this. The striker apears to be in good shape, so I figure I have to weld it in. Thanks Maryjane for the instructions on door pin and bushing replacement. I will go look at that tommorow.

Post a pic of the area where the striker was!
sounds like it's been a problem for a long time and you tore up the sheet metal around the striker area! If So it will need to have a patch welded over the old area and the striker installed again.

Hey Fierodave you are dead on. That is the problem. I went today to a collision shop and they said that usually there is a plate inbehind there that the striker attaches to. If I can get at it , it should be fine. Fieros have these plates I assume? Can I just take off the body panel there and go about it?
Thanks

did the striker bolt break in 2, or the threaded nut inside the jam come out? If it broke, drill a hole into the broken piece and use and 'EZ out' to get it out and put in a new one. If the captured nut broke out, your going to have to get a new plate with the nut rewelded back onto the jam. That is a real pain in the azz. You may have to even pull off the rear quarter panel (fender) to keep from starting a fire inside the jam when you weld it.

Roger,
It is the nut on the inside that has broken off. So where do I get this new "Plate" or whatever? Can someone tell me how to get the panel off to do this? When I weld it, does it have to be welded on the inside there you mean?
Thanks
