i looked at that 86 2m4 with the bad oil leek, know i found a cheap 87 2.5L GM engine with low miles, might be a fiero engine. it's (probably) a dis engine so i wonder what is involved swaping that in instead.

It *could* be done... but...

Although the engine would mount up and actually fit, you'd really need to swap the whole harness from the donor car over. That's ECM, and the whole bit. And into an '84 would be a PITA as the connectors are all really different (where they pass through the bulkhead, etc even).

Unlike a V6, the DIS and non-DIS engines are quite a bit different and can't be converted from one to the other.

Might wanna hold out for a non-DIS engine.

If the '87 engine comes complete with wiring harness and ECM, then you might be able to make it work. Motor mounts and tranny bolt-ups should be exactly the same.

HOWEVER, the fuel lines on the DIS Fiero engines are routed differently from the distributer engines. On the distributer engines, the fuel lines come up the left side of the engine compartment and attach to the left side of the throttle body. On the DIS engines, the fuel lines come up the right side and mount to the right side of the throttle body. Also, the fuel filter on the DIS engines is under the floor pan next to the fuel tank.
