A fellow UK owner took his 88GT Fiero to a garage back in 1999 to have a new clutch installed. Some time later he received SOME of his engine/gearbox back in individual nut/bolt form! Many of the ancillaries, connections etc were also missing.

The car is now back to near complete form. The owner is asking for another 88GT to compare his with to make sure everything is where it should be.

Here is the problem....I reckon that 88GT's over here are as rare as rocking horse dung . It would be much easier to find someone with an 87GT to use as a comparison but what are the differences between the 88 vs 86-87 (interested in connections/layout etc of engine bay/gearbox)?

I hope you can help and we can get another Fiero back on its wheels!

Cheers
PK

The two are basicly the same. Some of the differences are exhaust related, ie: drop pipe and 'Y' pipe.
All sensors are in the same locations. In what area are you fellows having problems?

I have an 86 motor in my 87 GT. Everything is the same except for a few things like the oil pan and timing chain cover, but that is all I noticed. My car runs fine with the 86 Motor, and I have all 87 electronics even the computer. 87-88 should be identical except for the 88 is internal balanced I beleive. 4cyl of course went to the distributorless ignition.

I think the A/C bracket and front motor mount on the 88 are different. Electrics should be the same.
The 88 doesn't have the engine compartment blower and pipes.

Don't you just love those "some assembly required" repair shops?

I hope he got his money back. There's no excuse for that kind of crap. If they can't put the car back together, they shouldn't be in business.

Thanks very much for the info. So far it sounds as if the majority of things are identical and comparison with an 87 would be sufficient.

Its good to know where the differences are....I didn't know about the engine blower and pipes not being installed on 88's. At least we will know that they are not missing.

Anyone know anymore differences?

Thanks again
Cheers
