This 85 that I'm looking at picking up. He's had it sitting up for a while (don't know how long exactly) but probably long enough that adding Gas Stablizer to the tank with fresh gas wouldn't work.

Does the motor have to be removed in order to remove the tank for cleaning?

Thanks.

No..You just have to get the car up high enough so you can crawl under it to take the brackets off so the tank can drop...
Just did it on mine last week..get a manual and follow along with the directions..

to make things somewhat easier ( providing the pump still functions ) would be to first dissconnect the fuel feed line ( not return ) which will be the larger in diameter and either add hose to it or by itself and aim it into a container, then pull off the ALDL panel and run 12 volts ( usually a wire from the fuse box ) to terminal G ( upper left hand location ). This will cause the pump to run straight from the battery and will let you drain your tank to make it easier for removal - considering gas is 7 lbs ( about ) per galllon, it all adds up

See, I was thinking about that technique, but what I am worried about is wether or not there is a build up of gunk in the tank and I don't want to clog up the fuel pump screen. But then again, it might make more sense to do that to at least make sure the fuel pump works.

Thanks once again.

well, I would take advantage of the situation and just replace the pump and strainer now

If you need part numbers for replacment items, let us know and I will post them
