I was talking with my older brother tonight; of course we were talking car stuff. Told him about the MSD setup, roller-tip rocker arms, and other work done to the 88GT car. Since the roller-tip rocker arms are 1.52 ratio, they increased valve lift by 1.35 percent. Earlier in the evening I had looked at a cam article that said ideal valve lift is 0.25 percent the diameter of the valve itself. I assume the article was refering to the intake valve?
Wondering where my new setup is, I computed this figure and got the following results.
Intake vales is 1.72" and 0.25% of this is 0.430 Intake valve lift in the setup is 0.427, very close.
Is this factor of lift to valve size a heuristic to use so as to not over cam a non-race engine?
