Well, we had 9cm of snow here in Calgary yesterday. I managed to get myself to school while it was starting. However, there was too much down to leave school yesterday afternoon, so I had to leave it overnight and let the plowing teams get some work done. It's been about -20*C to -25*C (about -10*F) and sitting for over 24 hours. I got back to school just now, and went to start her up and let her warm up for a bit before working in the lab for a while. She started like a charm, first crank. New battery, plugs, and wires. It ran while I took the time to brush all the snow off the entire car (the snow on the decklid went up to the roof). However, just as I finished the car sputtered and died. I checked the coolant, not frozen, and I have 3/4 a tank of gas and put in gas line antifreeze with the last tank. When I tried to start it again it just sputtered like it was cranking, but couldn't turn over. My thoughts are that all the snow falling through the vents could have clogged up the intake and it's being suffocated, possibly gas line, possibly something else, any suggestions here? Thanks in advance,

Brandon

I'm thinking maybe something got wet in the engine compartment, while the car was running and the heat was melting the snow on the deck lid? Try to listen if the fuel pump is running, just turn the key to the run position(not start) you should here the fuel pump running about 2-3 secs until pressure builds up then it will shut off, if you don't here it, the fuel pump is bad or the fuel pump relay is bad(may have gotten wet from the snow)..good luck..jim('84 Indys)

alright, I just tried what you suggested. First I took off the vent and cleaned up the snow and ice around the intake and the other device there (is that the fuel pump?) I have a 2.8 by the way. When I put the car into on position (not trying to start it) I hear a click from the engine (hard to tell where, I'm by myself), and I get a code flashed at me (1 flash). When I try to start it just clicks...... I don't want to be at school all day!

Sounds like bad battery to me... Blown cell maybe? Put a stress-tester on it. It's probably shot.

Sounds like a bad alternator to me. 1st check the battery connections. If that doesn't work try to jump the car. If it starts and runs while connected to the other vehicle (or battery pack, if your that lucky) and dies after being disconnected its the alternator.

You'd be suprised just how much power it takes just to run the vehicle.

Just had one go out on my mothers car.

Well, probably alternator. I just got a ride home from a friend. Funny thing is that this afternoon when I had a friend meet me at school to take a look at it, she started up and ran fine the whole time he was there. He went home, and I went back in the school to do some more work. When I was ready to go she started up fine again, and then after a few minutes, the radio died, lights started dimming, and then the whole car just died. The battery is only a month and a half old, so unless I got a dud battery it's gotta be the alternator. Problem now is that it is supposed to be -25 (high) again tomorrow, and it's in a snow covered parking lot, this makes it pretty damn tough to get the alternator out. And I'm supposed to work tomorrow from 10-6:30. This hasn't been a good day.
