The deal is that i have a 3.4 with the 3.4 pan, meaning i have an oil level sensor in the pan. I would like to wire this up. Who can tell me how.

Im assuming its just for a low oil level warning switch, but finding any info on the net is nearly impossible.

here is what it looks like, best pics i could come up with.

I've got one on the 3400pan too, but have yet to wire it.

If you have a multimeter see if its got continutity when empty. If the ohms peg the meter then its simple...

+12V-----Lightondash-----oilswitch-----ground

------------------
Its never going to be finished...

If it's like the SC engines, it's optical and there is a circuit that goes with it.

if you figure out how it operates, low makes ground, sends + current, etc. should be ez to hook up a warning lite. Prob just some sort of float in a tube, my guess is when float goes down, makes a ground. All youd need if thats the case, is a bulb wired to a hot wire so that when it got low signal (ground) it would ground the other side of bulb and lite it.

I was thinking along the lines of it being a float, but it never hurts to ask.

The piece on the end is a flexable plastic, with a thin metal wire inside.

Here is another pic of it. You can sorta make out the sensor on the end.

The one on the N* is similar but different. It's a float switch, but....it is closed on high oil and opens on low oil. I used a SPDT relay (5 contacts) and wired the low oil switch to activate the relay. When the relay is energized the NC contact go open and the light is off. When the relay loses power the relay goes closed and the NC contacts ground the IP light. I used the same switch on the coolant tank and several other functions, too.

BTW on the N* this is fairly useless. The standard oil level position is at the full mark when the engine is stopped. WHen started oil is pumped up into the block and the light is on all the time. The caddy IPC has a circuit that just looks at the oil level when the engine is static and then holds that reading until the next restart. It does not apparently give a continuous reading. Don't know how the 3.4 or 3800 is utilized.
